The widely forgotten follow-up to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, again with Conradt Veidt in a leading role deals with a particular genre of the horror film, which was to go on to become very popular, namely the "autonomous body part" (Z. Zizek): The talented piano player Paul Orlac loses both his hands in an accident. After a successful transplant of the two hands of an executed murderer Orlac becomes haunted by delusional vision. His hands seem to develop a life of their own: Orlac turns into a murderer.
