The French avant garde ensemble Art Zoyd was founded in 1969 and is one of the most influential members of the "rock in opposition"-movement founded by Chris Cutler in 1978. Their music is a totally unique fusion of rock, Celtic folklore, jazz, chamber music, and industrial. In the past Art Zoyd reinterpreted the score of successful silent films like Metropolis, Nosferatu, or Häxan. Today the head of the band Thierry Zaboitzeff lives close to Vienna and still causes quite a stir with his musical projects such as Prometheus and Missa Furiosa.
