Two years ago the HERZZBühne from Dresden under the direction of the musician and artist Tobias Herzz Halbauer produced their first silent film adaptation: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
The HERZZBühne tries not to take the storyline out of its original historical setting, but experiments with the aesthetics of silent film and separates the visual from the acoustic level to raise the awareness of the elements hidden in between - the things we usually don't see but which continue to play on the mind of the observer long after the play is over...
The play is supported by music and sounds - ranging from samples dating from the time Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari was shot to ambient and industrial sounds.
